Chocolate Havanese

BowWow birthday cake

An easy and fun bone shaped birthday cake for your pet. Shareable with humans.

cake ingredients

  • 2 cups flour (500ml)
  • 4 tsp baking powder (20ml)
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup carob chips* (85ml) optional
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil(60ml)
  • 2 Tbsp. honey (30ml)
  • 2 very ripe bananas
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2/3 cup water (170ml)

  • 8 oz cream cheese (250ml)
  • 3 Tbsp. Peanut Butter (45ml)
  • 2 Tbsp. Water or milk (30ml)

    topping

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml)of topping (optional)
  • Use peanut crumbs, carob sprinkles or crushed cereal

  • mixing and baking instructions

    CAKE: Mix flour, salt and baking powder in a medium bowl. Stir in carob chips (optional). *Be sure to only use carob. Never use chocolate as it is toxic to your dog. In another bowl, beat together bananas, eggs, oil, honey and water. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir only to combine. Grease tins or spray with non stick spray. Fill pans 2/3. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-28 minutes for muffin tins, 45-50 minutes for loaf pan. Toothpick inserted should come clean. Cool 10 minutes in pans. Remove from pans and finish cooling on wire rack. Cut and assemble according to directions below.

    FROSTING: Whip cream cheese with 2 Tbsp. Peanut Butter and 2 Tbsp. water or milk. Add more liquid if needed for spreading consistency. Spread a thin layer over top and sides of cake. TOPPING: sprinkle finely chopped peanuts all over top of cake. ** For a peanut free option, omit peanut butter in frosting and choose topping other than peanuts.

    Step 1: Bake cake in one small or mini loaf pan and 4 muffin tins or small ramekins. Cool on wire rack.

    Step 2: Take loaf cake and trim off rounded top. Cut out curved corners to make a scalloped point on each end.

    Step 3: Trim muffins to the same height as the loaf
    cake or leave tops domed if you prefer.

    Step 4: Fit the 4 muffins into the cut out corners to make a bone shape.

    Step 5: Mix frosting to spreading consitency and ice cake with a thin layer of whipped frosting.

    Step 6: Leave plain or decorate with topping.
    Store in refrigerator.

    Please offer small servings only, a few bites are plenty. You don't want to make your best friend sick on his birthday.
    This recipe makes approx. 12 Havanese sized servings. This is similar in texture and taste to banana bread.
