Multigrain biscuits

  • 1 packet yeast
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour (750ml)
  • 1 & 1/2 cups rolled oats (375ml)
  • 1 & 1/2 cups cracked wheat (375ml)
  • 1 & 1/2 cups corn meal (375ml)
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk (125ml)
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder(5ml)
  • 3 cups chicken broth (750ml)
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 tsp. milk (5 ml)
  • mixing and baking instructions

In a small bowl, mix together and let rise 1 packet yeast and a pinch of salt in 1/4 cup warm water. In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients.

To dry ingredients, add the yeast mixture and 3 cups of chicken broth. Knead like bread, adding flour if needed to make a firm dough. Roll or pat out on floured board to about 1/4" thick.(Not too thin) Cut into shapes and place on cookie sheets. Glaze with an egg wash mixture of 1 small egg and 1 tsp. milk. Let air dry 45 minutes. Bake at 300 degrees for 60 minutes. Turn oven off but leave cookies inside for 1-2 hours longer to get crusty.

This makes a huge batch of approximately 10 dozen Havanese sized treats.

Note: For a little something different at a Bake Sale, consider making a batch of these and put several biscuits in individual bags. Don't forget to label as DOG BISCUITS. Many people own dogs and may buy a bag as a special treat for their pet.
