Meet The Author
Suzanne McKay: As a child growing up dogless in an allergic household, canines of all sorts held an absorbing fascination. Today, dogs in general, and the Havanese in particular, are an integral part of my life and provide an endless source of inspiration. Canine activities include training and competing in Conformation, Agility, Obedience, Rally and some Herding as well as involvement in a Pet therapy program. To date, 50+ assorted titles and certificates have been earned on my Havanese. To round things off, I have been an instructor for a local Canine Education center for over 15 years, teaching classes ranging from basic obedience geared exclusively to small dogs to competitive Rally classes.
Where dogs are my first infatuation, writing is my second. Dogs and writing intertwine into an indelible passion. My canine columns and articles appear in assorted publications including: Dogs in Canada, Front and Finish, Top Notch Toys and Canine Review. Book works include contributing chapters in Joyous Havanese by Kathryn Braund and From Nose To Tail, a Havanese grooming handbook co-authored with Noel Hynds and published by the Havanese Fanciers of Canada. Woofs, Wiggles and Wags: Raising a Toy Breed puppy won a DWAA writing award as Best Pet Guide 2010. I share my home on the Canadian prairies with my very supportive husband, tolerant of my obsessions, and three engaging Havanese.
