Black & Tan, Colour Point, Tricolour

As we saw in the definitions, colour points are laid out in a very specific pattern with lighter markings appearing on the inner ear, eyebrows, cheeks, chest, legs and vent. Points may be cream, silver or tan and may be solid coloured or brindled. Note the wide variety of colour points of the dogs shown in this gallery. Base coats are most often black, silver or chocolate or, less commonly, may be Sable or Brindle. Black and Tan is the most well-known combination as it is seen in many other familiar dog breeds such as the Rottweiler and Doberman. See Gallery 10 for Chocolate patterns. Sorting out point and tricolour patterns can be surprisingly perplexing. See Points of Confusion 3 for more information and tips on how to indentify them.
